ImageAVO Stage 3 Goes into the 10's!!

The build up to the Ford Nationals 2008 was a good one for us at AVO as for once we were ready to go at least 3 to 4 days before hand.  We were looking forward to getting a good time out of Jake's AVO BA XR6T, we had thought that a high 10 second quarter mile run was not out of the realms of possibility.  We were also looking forward to seeing what Tony Granic's EA Falcon would pull down the strip, it is a very potent street car but never been tested a strip.
So again, off for the trip up the highway to Heathcote Park Raceway in Victoria, Australia with the both cars on trailers for another action packed day for the Ford Nationals.
On the Friday night for test and tuning, the BA ran consistent times of between 11.06 and 11.2 at around 124-125mph.  Jake was a bit disappointed that we were so close to the 10 second mark and did not get over the line.  We had a full day the next day to get into the elusive 10 second club so the hope was still there.  Steve was going to the strip the next morning to make some minor alterations to the ECU.

On the Saturday we were ready to go, the day started off well with a good couple of runs - registering 11.05, 11.03 and an 11.13.  We tried 2 different tunes and decided the original tune was going to be the best for the afternoon drag racing.  Jake played around with tyre pressures during the day and came to the conclusion that 15PSI was about the best for the Mickey Thompson slicks.

Jake decided to wait to about 6.00pm to give the car a better chance in slightly cooler weather.  We also took the headlight out to get some more air to the standard airbox.  We did it, 10.98 @ 125MPH and then followed it up straight after with a best time of 10.91 with a MPH of 126.02.  We were stoked, we now know the stage 3 bolt-on package with additional tuning and race fuel is capable of such feats.  We will be giving it one more go at Calder Park shortly with the same mods but with some more tuning variations only.

Tony's EA did not fair as well as the BA, he only managed a couple of runs and the best time being an ET of 12.8 at MPH of 122.
The main reason for not running more was problems with the diff, it was single spinning – back to the drawing board.  Stay tuned for a better time from the old clunker.
