While I was driving through a small pass to the Willow Springs raceway, I passed through a small town called Mojave. It literally took till Sunday morning for it to really strike me that Mojave - and Willow Springs raceway, the site of Subiefest - was in the Mojave Desert. You hear about these places, but you never think you will actually be there.

Well, we were. We all were. And, woah, Toto, we aren't in the Pacific Northwest anymore! Sunday morning wasn't too bad, but once it hit noon, somebody added a lot more lighter fluid to the bbq! Some car were literally smoking! Ah, wait, that's from their engines letting go... 

Adding to the heat was the on-track situation, with wicked fast Subaru's adding some more fuel to the afternoon bonfire. The turnout was quite impressive, with people from all over the country coming in. I got to say hi in person to quite a few people I've only seen online, which was great. Even a few Seattlites managed to follow us down as well. I think they quickly passed out from exposure to the sun, however.

There was quite a few vendors on hand, from Cosworth to Crawford. And us truly. It was good to sit down with everybody and catch up on the news as we huddled around our ice coolers. It was a bunch of fun, and has me looking forward to Subiefest 2009 - as long as it's in a slightly cooler location.
