Philip Island WRX Club Lap Record (Open Class) – 1:45.14
The Team at AVO did another great job of preparing the car for the WRX Club March 08 Philip Island event. The power increase from the previous dyno work really showed – with an extra 10kph at the end of the straight and a new club Open Class lap record of 1:45.14. The time being very impressive to the extent that the nearest open class competitor was HPF’s Stephen Bradford with a time 5.2 seconds slower per lap.
At the end of the Winton event the oil pressure was looking a bit low, so Lee recommended upgrading to a Cosworth Oil Pan, Oil Baffle and High Volume/Hi Pressure Oil Pump. The oil system upgrades (along with the new carbon fibre under-tray ducting air to the oil cooler) provided a significant increase in oil pressure and noticeable reduction in blow-by.
Clayton's Race Report
"There was slight drizzle during the early part of the day. There were good times being set across most of the classes – a real tribute to all of these drivers as the track grip was very varying greatly from lap to lap. It looked like rain was not far away, so again the pressure was on to lay down a good time before conditions deteriorated.
While the track conditions did not inspire confidence, the car’s faultless and consistent performance did, and I managed a personal best time of 1:45.51 during the first timed session.
I didn’t manage to get a clear lap during the second run and the best I could manage was 1:45.85. Next up was the Super Sprint. I cleared a bit of traffic in the first three laps and then on the final lap I managed to knock another few tenths off my time in the first session to set a new Open Class WRX Club lap record.
Next up we have a bit of fun at Deca. However, I am really keen to hit my favourite track, Sandown. With the oil system problems sorted, we are now looking to tune for a bit more power. Can’t wait…"
