Heathcote Park International Dragway turned up the heat for a scorching 32 degrees day for the Holden Drag Nationals. This year showed a good turnout despite the temperature, everything from your LC Torana to your VZ Commodore turning up. Yet again AVO was out in force with our booth there and our brand new Twin Turbo LS1 Engine stand on show for all to look at. One of our customers was out with his Twin Turbo GTO Monaro. His first run of the day producing an ET time of 12.3, this was much slower than expected and it was obvious there was something not right. We datalogged the second run and it showed the boost was only reaching 3 PSI, some 5 PSI short on its target of 8 PSI.
Our first port of call to check was the cat converters as the customer chose to run with these on. Both cat converters had collapsed so we removed the rear sections of the exhaust. This was a risky move as the vehicle had not been tuned with out the restrictions of the cat converters. It had previously made 409 kilowatts at the wheels at 8 PSI with the hi-flow cat converters on the vehicle. The vehicle went terribly rich with the exhaust removed and actually felt worse. Without air/fuel equipment there we did not want to risk making guess calcualtions. It ended up being a disappointing day but I am sure without a doubt that we will make a 10 second pass so stay tuned.
