It was a warm sunny 20 degree (centigrade) day down at the well renowned Heathcote Park Raceway for the 2007 Ford Drag Nationals. AVO sponsored the bracket of 9.99 and under, and we had our stand there with all the products for the XR6 Turbo and general accessories. The ladies of AVO were out and about handing out information, stickers and brochures.
That was not the only reason we were there, as we were also competing with in the drag racing comp with the AVO Stage 3 Ford XR6 Turbo. Stage 3 consists of a Hi-flow flat panel filter, 660-cc bolt-in fuel injectors, 3 inch full stainless steel exhaust system, AVO Bar and plate aluminum front mount intercooler kit, larger wastegate flapper valve and a bolt-in high-flow in-tank fuel pump with a AVO Custom Reflash. It's good for a lot better power and response, and now it was time to prove it.
The first run of the day for AVO produced an ET of 13.81, a reaction time of 1.25, a 60ft time of 2.42 and a mph of 103.47. We knew there was a lot more left in it, and we were right. With tyre pressure adjustments and some different driving approaches, we managed to get it down to an ET of 12.27, reaction time of 0.66, a 60ft time of 1.97 and a mph of 118.86. We were all absolutely stoked with this effort as our aim was to break in to the 12's and it was completed with a standard engine and manual transmission.
Now it's on to dipping into the 11's, watch out for the car at Calder Park Raceway in the next couple of weeks. Overall a great day of racing with plenty of fun had by all. We can't wait to get out there again next month for the Holden Drag Nationals.
