Cobb tunes AVO380 Stage 3 to 314whp!
Read more...The two Oregon-based COBB tuning gurus, Tim Bailey of Surgeline Tuning and Sean Sexton of RalliTEK , has just finished up creating some official COBB baseline maps for an AVO Stage 3 kit. Creating an official map is a bit different than your run-of-the mill tune, as this is going to be used not only as a plug-and-play tuning map for Stage 3 kit owners, but is also likely the base starting point for many tuners looking to get to the bleeding edge of performance with this turbo. There is nothing half-assed about a COBB base map, with every parameter measured and every eventuality taken care of.

Legacy Cold Air Box!
Read more...Our cold air box for the Legacy and Outback turbo models is finally done! By isolating our AVO power air intake kit from the engine bay, it lowers air temperatures being fed into the engine. It has been designed to work with the stock cold air feed (with some trimming to it), taking advantage of the stock cold air system for maximum benefits.

AVO wins HP Heaven Dyno Shoot-out!
Read more...The AVO Holden VX SS with the AVO twin-turbo kit for the LS1 cleaned up the competition at the HP Heaven Dyno Shoot-out ! Putting down a healthy 434kW (582hp), it blasted by the nearest competition, a 2002 Monaro with a turbocharged smallblock V8 putting out 409.5kW (549.1hp). The Fords put down some good numbers as well, with a Nitrous Oxide buffed V8 Falcon XY doing 398.5kW (534.4hp), and a straight six turbocharged Ford EA pushing 395.4kW (530.2hp). The nearest Japanese car was a Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R putting down a respectable 308.1kW (413.2hp)

Race Report – Haunted Hills - August 2008
Read more...The event at Haunted Hills optimises club motorsport.  There was a great turn out with regard to competitors, the weather was perfect and the track is brilliant.  Big thanks to Wayne, Lynn, Barry, Drew, Marcus, Stephen and all the WRX Club officials and volunteers who ran a great event on the day.

The Haunted Hills track is fantastic.  For a short track there is so much going on.  It’s ideal for club motorsport as it rewards car set up and finesse over outright power.  There has been plenty of positive feedback about the track following the event both from drivers and spectators.  If you are considering getting started in motorsport, this would be one of the events worth keeping an eye out for next year.

The car is now pumping out a massive 287kW at the wheels thanks to some head work and the addition of an AVO500 turbo.  The heads have been treated to race porting, stage 3 cams and over-size inlet and exhaust valves.  The hill climb wasn’t the best place to really make use of the new power.  However, the tuning was perfect, making the car easily to handle at mid throttle and off boost – critical to getting a good time at such a tight track.

Melbourne Autosalon 2008
Read more...Autosalon 2008 was an event that we here at AVO Australia had been looking forward to for many months.

We had a bigger stand this year with one more car than the previous year and a bit more room to move.  With everything from your Rotary's to 1200hp Skylines, this years Autosalon had it all, even a new R35 skyline.

AVO took both the BA XR6 Turbo and the FG XR6 Turbo along to show the Ford side of our business.  On the GM side we were sure to display both the VX Commodore Twin Turbo and the GTO Monaro Twin Turbo.  The Japanese contingent was the Subaru 06 STI.  These are all fine examples of what AVO can produce from their workshop in Cheltenham.  The cars were a showcase of bolt on AVO parts and some of the finest custom turbocharging work in Australia.

All in all, the Autosalon was very busy over the 2 days.  There was good enquiries and lots of interest in our stand and display cars.

2006 Six Star Festa pt. 2
Read more...Blasts from the past! Back in 2006 I and AVO attended a brand-new magazine-organized Subaru event. Six Star magazine is a Subaru enthusiast publication that had been growing rapidly in the Japanese market. Unlike most of the other enthusiast publications in Japan that tend to focus on a particular Subaru model, it covers the entire range of Subaru models, from the Pleo to the Legacy.  Partially in celebration of lasting over a year and a half (with the printing of the 18th issue) Six Star decided to host a Subaru event at Fuji Speedway.

2006 - 17th Annual Revspeed Battle
Read more...Back in December of 2006, I attended the RevSpeed Super Battle. Held at the end of the year, it is pretty much the last major event before the Tokyo Auto Salon, and was used as a sort of wrap up for the tuning market in Japan. Unlike most of the contest AVO attends, this is an "open" contest, with all types of cars competing for fast lap.
