New 08 STI rear muffler
Read more...We've been hard at work creating new parts for the 08+ Impreza STI, and our latest is the twin-tip muffler. This is a high-quality stainless steel system, designed to bolt up to our 3" mid-pipe or the stock mid-pipe on the 08 STI. Fit and finish are impeccable. It is also much lighter than the stock muffler!

Olympus Rally - April 2009

Read more...I was able to get out and attend the Olympus Rally over the weekend. AVO is sponsoring Gary Cavett of Cavett Rally Motorsports in his GC8 Impreza, and I thought it would be quite good to see him in action. The weather actually cooperated by not pouring rain over all of us, and the temperatures were above freezing as well - you could almost believe you were not in the Pacific Northwest!

I was only able to attend the Saturday portion of the event, which went well despite a few crashes. Wouldn't be a rally event without them, I suppose. My shooting location was only eventful in the amount of fist-sized rocks I was pelted with by the rally cars, and the demise of the StickCam™. (One of the crew I was with mounted a video camera on a stick and had it hanging out to catch the rally cars going by. Until one of the rally cars caught it when they went deep inside...) I'll report more on the race results later when I have the final results.

2009 Hypermeet 02

Read more...The burning question is, probably, how did we do this year? Very well, thank you. After the dust (and random engine, suspension, and body parts) had settled, we ended up a bit better than even we anticipated. While not the fastest at the track, ending up at the 4th place mark is nothing to sneeze at. The car did a 1 minute, 1.5 second time, clearly better than last year by nearly a second. And to be honest, it would have been even better than that with a bit more suspension setup and choice of tires.

2009 Hypermeet 01
Read more...Only once a year, yet it takes up so much time and energy for all the Subaru and Mitsubishi tuners of Japan. Plus just that one crazy outside element that originated in Australia that runs a certain black widebody STI. You could say we are a Japanese tuner, though, as Ross and the crew has been fighting it out in the back alleys of Tokyo versus the Prova's and Zerosports for over 6 years now. And we've been coming to the Hypermeet for 4 years, bringing Legacies and STI's to do the dirty on the track.

2009 Evo vs. STI Hypermeet at Tsukuba - the day before
Read more...The AVO widebody racecar and Legacy turbo wagon is tuned, prepped, clean, and ready to rock at the 2009 Evo vs. STI vs. Legacy Hypermeet at Tsukuba circuit, about 1.5 hours North of Tokyo! With a new tune, some new equipment (including a much lighter racing fuel cell), and a slew of preparation hours put into it, the AVO Widebody is ready to take a crack at beating the minute mark. With over 500hp on tap out of the AVO 550 turbocharger and Cosworth engine, it's got the power to make it there, and the suspension setup should be well sorted out.

Hypermeeting 2009 Prep!
Read more...The 2009 Evo vs. STI Hypermeeting at Tsukuba Circuit in Japan is literally just around the corner. AVO's race car has been sitting on the dyno for the last week, with tuning and other preparation going on. A new tire manufacturer has been picked for this race - we will be running Hankook Ventus TD tyres for the first time. They are rapidly gaining acceptance in Japan for their blend of cost and performance.

RalliTEK Stage 3 Kit plus FMIC!
Read more...RalliTEK in Portland, Oregon has been our premier distributor in America for nearly a decade now. They've been with us since the days of the original 2.5 RS Turbo kit for the naturally aspirated RS Impreza's, long before the first of the turbo WRX models reached US shores. The latest project by Sean Sexton of RalliTEK was the new Stage kits utilizing a slew of AVO parts.

At the top of the stage kits was the e85 Stage 3 kit that is centered around the AVO380 ball-bearing turbocharger. When Sean reached over 330whp with this turn-key kit, you can be forgiven for thinking that that was enough. Not for Sean! While the power with the kit was quite good, he felt that there was more in the turbocharger. While the AVO TMIC is as good as you can get when upgrading the top mount, the very design of the TMIC that is mandated by the setup Subaru uses for the Legacy and 08 WRX limits the maximum available power.

Seaside Subaru Cruise March 21st, 2009
Read more...What started as an informal gathering and cruise organized through the nasioc.com Subaru owners forum soon grew into a major event with over 60 cars gathering at the starting point early Saturday morning. The cruise was to go from Portland, Oregon to Seaside, Oregon. The start point was from the RalliTEK office in Portland, as they had quickly come on board and volunteered their time, parking lot, and staff to help get the event going.

As this was a largely informal gathering started by nasioc.com forum member, even RalliTEK was anticipating that their parking lot would be more than adequate for everybody. But before even the official starting time the parking lot was filled to capacity and then some, and soon people had to resort to parking up and down both sides of the street outside. It probably helped that, despite all the dire warnings of inclement weather by the various news organizations, the day was quite nice and sunny.
